SHATTAT2025
‘ Shattat ’ or ‘ﺗﺘﺶ ’ is a cultural gesture originating from Sudan, commonly used as a sign of strength, joy, and belonging, often circulating on social media as a representation of a joyful collective life.

This project takes place in a reception house in Steenvoorde, the village where I grew up. There, up to twelve Sudanese men on their migratory route are hosted.

Through a collaborative approach, the men chose how they wish to appear in the portraits, reclaiming control over their representation and revealing a perspective on exile marked by dignity.
